Make Your Own Natural Carpet Freshener

Organic Natural Carpet Freshener Recipe

It’s spring and you’re thinking you’d like to use a carpet freshener to remove the stink of winter from your flooring. But if you looked at the ingredient lists for regular carpet deodorizers, you might find chemicals like naphthalene (which goes by moth flakes, white tar, or tar camphor) and formaldehyde which are not so healthy for those living in your home. But you don’t have to lose heart. There are some very effective natural carpet fresheners you can use to remove all kinds of odors. The following are a few eco-friendly carpet deodorizers:

  • Baking soda: Sprinkle the entire surface of your carpet with baking soda and leave for several hours or overnight so that it can absorb the odors. Then sweep off excess baking soda and follow that with a thorough vacuuming.
  • Liquid carpet cleaner: Making homemade carpet cleaning solution to shampoo the carpet isn’t difficult. Just combine your favorite natural soap or eco-friendly natural laundry detergent and use in a regular carpet shampooer.
