Natural Red Wine Stain Remover

A Safe Wine Stain Remover Recipe

The shocking site of red wine on your shirt may be enough to send you into a cleaning coma as you wrack your brain for ways to treat it quickly, and while fast action is important, there’s no need to panic. With these natural red wine stain remover techniques, you’ll be able to save that shirt for another party:

  • Blot: The first step is always to blot the stain with a clean rag.
  • Club soda: Soak the rag in club soda and continue to blot. If you have a spray bottle, spritz the stain with the club soda for more effective application and continue to blot.
  • Borax: For really tough red wine stains, soak the garment in a solution of water and borax for several hours until the stain goes away. Then launder like normal.
  • Dried wine option: If the wine has had a chance to dry, drape the fabric over a bowl and then cover the stain thickly with powdered borax. Boil a kettle of water and then working from the outside in, pour the hot water through the clothing until you get to the center.
